Sidetracked

I've put The Veil on hold to work on other projects. I've been away helping out Jason Chen  and his friends with a music video where I helped with some rotoscope. I can't wait to see what and how they create this music video for the band Jukebox the Ghost. Right after that project, I designed a German Gothic armor for a friend of mine. My friend will take the designs and have it be made so he can wear it to the Renaissance Fair. Pretty cool. Here are the designs.

The Veil WIP 12

The more I work on this the more I want to make it immaculate and meticulous. The more I look at it the more I want to fix things. Here's the latest progress.

The Veil WIP 10

Dreams have a way of telling you things, mostly in an ambiguous way. For me, it's a place to find answers. I found it there right before the deep sleep. Here's what I got out of it.

The Veil WIP 9

I'm having difficulties deciding the movement of the veil or even having it at all. Then again, it would defeat the purpose of the title. Here's what I've got.

Around this time...

Two years ago, around this time, I graduated from college. Two years ago, I faced the world with uncertainty and anxiousness. Two years later, present day, I am still anxious but now certain. What a world of difference.
Here's the latest work in progress.

Demonia Revisited

Have you ever worked on a project and think you are finished but for some reason keep coming back to it? You keep looking at it for the longest time and can't quite figure out what's missing in your piece? Well, that happened with Demonia. This painting had been bothering me for quite some time. I decided to revisit it with fresh eyes and tweaked it a bit to make it more together and enchanting, I hope. After finishing this second version, I feel rather comfortable with it now.

The Sunrise

Hello there!
I know it has been a while. I apologize. Many things have happened on this journey of mine. I finally got a job as a graphic artist/illustrator for a social gaming company. I'm super excited and relieved. It has been about a month now and I'm gradually working my way back into my personal projects. I also bought a car with the money I saved up while working retail. So things are looking up...it's strange. Things happened so quickly that I'm still soaking it all in. Hardly expecting to find any work where I could sit on my butt all day and draw- and get paid. It's surreal and I'm embracing every moment. I hate to jinx myself but oddly things are shifting towards a good direction. I can't quite put my finger on it but the little hope that I did have prior to my new job is manifesting in some way. I don't regret all the things I had to go through. The struggles and obstacles helped to define who I am today. I believe if I had things handed to me quickly, I might not fully appreciate everything and everyone in my life. I wouldn't be able to see clearly like I do now. I hated what I had to go through but who doesn't. It happened for a reason and I'll carry it with me as a reminder. With the changes in my life now, I will still continue to work hard to visualize my complete dream. Or most of it anyways...
Here is the latest work in progress that you're probably dying to see...probably not.

Pen Sketch Series 1

During some down time or when I need a break from my laptop. I like to do quick character sketches in pen. I use a pen instead of a pencil to prevent myself from erasing or fixing. This way I don't focus to much on trivial things.

The Veil WIP 7

I recently purchased the Adobe CS5 Production Premium and a part of me died. It's insane how expensive it is but it is well worth the investment. Since I want to be a well rounded artist, I figured the best way is to practice and create mini projects to get back into the familiarity of digital tools I used to work in. I also miss animating quite a bit. Here's the latest work in progress...

The Veil WIP 3

I almost scrapped this project because I was getting frustrated. But earlier today, out of the blue, a vision of what I deeply wanted this art to look like finally came to me. I am confident now knowing what direction this is going, so be patient folks and I hope you enjoy the ride!

A Different Approach

Hi folks!

Sorry I haven't posted for a while. It's been an emotional roller coaster and I'm gradually working out of my funk. Just because I haven't painted in a while doesn't mean I haven't been sketching. Although a lot of it is indecipherable(working through frustration) I tried to keep productive. Today I'm going to share a new work in progress in which I just winged it- no prior sketch or planning. Maybe this way it will allow me to approach it differently.

New Sketches

I feel as though my best sketches are the ones that I don't plan beforehand. I tend to get stuck more often when I think too much about what I'm going to draw. Sometimes the best ideas are the spur of the moment ones-- make sure there's a pencil and pad near by!

Toro
Half way through sketching Toro, I felt she needed to be stoic and distant. For clothing I just felt she needed to be padded in armor because it seemed suitable for her.
Sana
While sketching Sana I mainly focused on her pose and sketch lines.

Demonia accepted to CGSociety gallery!

Ok! I submitted another digital painting, Demonia, to CGSociety's 2D/Illustration/Concept Art gallery and I got a comment! I get excited when people comment on my work. I'll take any criticisms whether they are positive or negative because it'll help me grow as an artist. Here is the link and Demonia: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=133&t=950839

Serge Banner.

Since I've become a new member at CGSociety, I wanted to make my own custom banner for my portfolio page. I like how I painted Serge's face so I went back and tweaked it some more to make it appealing. Here's the result.

Fae accepted to CGSociety Gallery!

As kool as the title sounds, it's really not that special lol. So I signed up recently to CGSociety and submitted Fae, one of my digital paintings, and it got accepted into their 2d/Illustration/Concept Gallery. I guess I met their standards because they don't accept just anything- whew. It feels nice but I'm really aiming for a plug as a feature artist...yeah that's not going to happen. I can only hope. Anyway, here is the link and Fae: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=133&t=948981

Serge Complete!

Finally! I believe I am done. I told myself I must finish this today because I need to move on! What a rough couple of weeks but I am glad I found the motivation to finalize Serge. Comments and critiques are welcomed. I'll show details in the next post.

My New Editor!

I would like to welcome Rachel to my blog. She is my new editor and will be overseeing my posts because apparently I'm grammatically incorrect....sigh, it's true. But it's all kool. When I start to sound profound in my posts that is all thanks to Rachel^_^

Serge WIP 5

Lately, it's been difficult to find some motivation and inspiration. I blame it on the effects of the holidays- oi! I got a new art book today called Top Cow that I got with my 50% off Border's coupon! Sweet deal I might say. So that sparked some motivation. Here it is, and it looks like the end is approaching.
